Carrot Cake and Shapes

OK, I think I am becoming obsessional about the shape of cakes! Maybe there are several solutions to the ‘problem’ of the ideal shape for a Carrot Cake! Delia Smith makes round cakes, cupcakes, and loaf cakes with the same recipe, depending on the occasion, so why am I fussing?

Eat Your Book  currently has 1,176 recipes for Carrot Cake, and the number increases daily. At least two friends have chosen the cake so I need to find/develop/tweak a second recipe for The Cake Book. And then there is the gluten-free issue and look at the cake above! A round cake, with filling and icing, and gluten-free!

And then there is decoration? Or none? Isn’t this beautiful? And these are real carrots – I had thought of marzipan, but this is better, and the cake won’t need a label! I could use my original recipe, with lemon glace glazing and these carrots, and a loaf shape

And here are small Carrot Cakes (with ground almonds) which are simply decorated with icing sugar, emphasing the shape of the cake – and my silicone moulds would be very suitable for this!

Now I need three Friends!

  1. So many dilemmas! I think that’s one of the joys of cake baking now, there are so many different ways of presenting them. When I started out, I had a 7 in square tin and that was the only shape cakes were for many years. Your little bundt carrot cake is so very cute.

I'd love to hear from you!
