I am pleased to say that, in early October, I am still enjoying summer weather in Northern Spain. Even though the trees in Northern Spain are still green, but with a tinge of gold, the mornings are quite sharp. This week my Six on Saturday is all about planting in Spanish Towns. Planting in Villafranca del Bierzo and Monforte de Lemos – plants hanging over balconies or under windows, and trees in streets.

1. The petunias over the balcony of the Town Hall and Theatre in Villafrance del Bierzo were stunning! An eye-popping bright pink!

2. There were flowers everywhere I looked in Villafranca del Bierzo which is a small, but very important town on the Camino de Santiago. Here the petunias are hanging over the balcony of a private house.

3.And yet more petunias, of a different colour, under a window in a private house.

4.Hibiscus is grown in the parks, and even as a small tree along some town streets! I don’t know what colour the flowers are as this was the only one I could find.

5. Magnolias are grown as shrubs and as street trees and now, at the end of summer, are adorned with large and rather beautiful fruits.

6. I loved walked around the old town in Monforte de Lemos and I just loved the contrast of colour and texture in a Cactus (unknown provenance) which I found hanging over a balcony. This is not a very horticultural description which I hope The Propagator will forgive!
