I have arrived at early April in the City Garden and I am actually quite pleased with the progress in the first three months of the year! I have been trying to plant โroomsโ where I concentrate certain varieties of plants, rather than spread the same plant all over the garden – fingers crossed this works.
The sunny fence bed
The new bed, next to the fence, is planted apart from one missing plant. I want to add another miscanthus in the hot, dry, stony corner of the bed. Here I have brought together Veronicas, Lysimachia, Knautia, Philadelphus, miscanthus and pennistum. It looks a little gaudy on paper, but the plants will come into their own at different times of the year.

Primroses
I am definitely going to plant some more of these yellow primulas next spring, and encourage the orangey ones I already have. They came from The Fortnight Garden where they just appeared one day.

Brunnera
Brunnera โJack Frostโ are in a tub, but also amongst the Japanese anemones, and in the new central bed. I love the colours.

A shady corner
I have a lot of shade or partial shade and it is difficult to find plants which enjoy this situation (and the soil is chalk) and are substantial enough. In this little corner I have planted hellebores – and will be adding more – foxgloves, blue anemone nemorosa, and some heuchera. Next to this are libertia grandiflora which should give some height.

Pretty colours
I am clumping up wallflowers and geranium โingwersonsโ inbetween the hydrangeas.

Still to come!
There is a lot of shade at the bottom of the garden where I am going to try more Japanese anemones, ferns, variegated fatsia, and libertia.

There is still quite a lot to do in the garden โmakeoverโ, but so far so good in early April in the City Garden! And I am rejoining the โSix on Saturdayโ discussions!
