I can hardly believe we are the start of May in the City Garden! The fifth month of the year already…
Central bed
The new bed has made good progress since March, and to my surprise, the arum lilies are starting to flower!

And what is also wonderful, is that the late-planted daffodil bulbs are still flowering and every morning I look out of the winder and they are a soft yellow in the sunlight – beautiful.

Aquilegias
Aquilegia Black Barlow is self-seeding and I am loving the colour! I look forward to seeing many more plants next year.

Wildflower trough
I though I would plant up a small trough with some wildflowers instead of pulling them up – well why not? Pink Herb Robert is actually very pretty, and the wild geum is just starting to flower.

Ferns
And here I have a challenge! The pots have been invaded by convolvulus and corydalis, and I think I will have to restart some of them. Others are coming out nicely.

Libertia Grandiflora
Just lovely! I have a clump of four in the small patio bed which self-seeded, and so I also have two clumps of three in the shaded bed along the back wall. These I have composted and I am watering every week. I would like to have โgatheringsโ of white through the garden.

The Pavement Garden
Yes, the garden is quite big enough, butย in 2022 I felt the bare patches of ground along the pavement, leading into our square, were both a wasted space and ugly. I had spare plants and decided to try minimal interference planting. No dig, no water, and tough plants. Today, as the geraniums are just starting to flower, I am quite pleased. Some plants have disappeared, but the vinca, bluebells, anamanthele and acanthus under the chestnut tree are flourishing, and shortly the geraniums will be in full flow.

So, I am quietly pleased with progress so far. Although I miss the Fortnight Garden, I can really only manage one garden, and am now limited to 20-30 minutes a day, but I enjoy that time, and am grateful for it. I send best wishes to all at Six on Saturday.
