The Greenwich Park Rose Garden has been replanted, not as a traditional rose garden, but as a more sustainable site, able to cope with hot weather. It is wonderful!
The Park
The grass is brown!
And Blackheath is just as brown!
Overview
But in the Greenwich Park rose garden the plants are flowering, and it is lush, even in this ongoing extreme heat. The new design was created by Tom Brown, the Head Gardener.
The Pergolas and Stands
The pergolas and stands support climbers, but also give height and variation, and look very good.
Some of the plants
I didn’t recognise all the plants, but I did enjoy the colours and the colour combinations. But I need perennials which will cope with shade, semi-shade, and above all, chalk.
Roses
There are roses, on the pergolas, and bushes amongst the perennials.
Grasses
And of course there are grasses and they are all flowering at this time of year. The garden in the Horniman Museum will also be looking good – I need to visit.
