Looking for inspiration in Greenwich Park

It has been a chilly, damp, grey day in London, one of those days when you don’t really want to do anything but know you ought to take some exercice. So I took myself to Greenwich Park to compare progress with the London Garden.

The herb garden was looking – green. The herbs were starting to grow and I was quietly pleased that my garden was doing well in comparison. But it was a misty and grey day and it would take more to lift my spirits.

There were a lot of people wandering about, exercising dogs and children, and someone was even trying to sell boat rides on the pond – they looked rather like figures in Breughel paintings.

The flowers are out – ornamental fruit trees, camellias, magnolias, hellebores, azaleas, kerria, forsythia, and the standard bedding plants.

But it is the trees which are wonderful and in the end it is the trees which seem to survive despite everything, and which lift your spirits.
