I made the Chocolate Guinness Cake again this weekend and I think I have my definitive recipe – this time I added Chinese Five-Spice Powder, with some cinnamon. The flavour is dense, but not overpowering, and also slightly unusual. I think the recipe is ready for ‘The Book’!
I dusted with icing sugar, as above, but it looked rather dull. (I couldn’t take a picture because the camera has broken – DISASTROUS!) Perhaps a stronger shape, with dusting of icing sugar would be more impressive?

Perhaps I should consider a white or creamy frosting?

Or a milk chocolate glaze, lighter than the cake colour?

Or perhaps just a shiny glaze?

Or perhaps it just needs some ‘sprinkles’ on the top?
